Several things could be done to improve situation on reserves. First establish individual property rights so residents would own their homes and not the band. Second monies from Ottawa should be paid to individual residents of reserves and not to Chief and Council. This would enable Council to tax property owners to fund services on reserves the same like any other municipality in Canada. Third eliminate the Ministry of Indian and Northern Affairs bureaucracy.
I trust natives are same like other Canadians and want freedom to run their own affairs. Sure some reserves will fail except many others will thrive and prosper when the nanny state philosophy is replaced by individual responsibility.
