A few nights ago I watched Gerry Seinfeld s new show The Marriage Ref. I normally don t watch reality shows except with Seinfeld at the helm I assumed it might be pretty good behind all his comedic talent produced one of the if not the best sitcoms in TV-dom.

But behind a few minutes into the show I looked through at my wife and was tempted to beg her to call an ambulance for me I thought I might be having a stroke and was hallucinating. This show isn t just bad .it sets a new standard for the word. It would set up nicely for one of those how bad is it? jokes. It s so bad it makes perhaps the worst movie of all time Bruce Willis Hudson Hawk seem love an Academy Award nominee. It s so bad that it s worth watching just to be amazed at how low great talent is capable of sinking. It tempts the question is there some self-destructive instinct in those who achieve greatness that forces them to eventually implode in a flash of hubris (think Tiger Woods)? basem Boshra has an excellent and very funny review of the show in Today s Gazette. Well worth reading here. If you haven t seen the show and don t understand the premise read the review. Then determine if you want to see it. I inspire you to watch it though just love an object lesson.

In a strange and twisted logic the reviews have been so bad that the show might actually pick up in the ratings since so many people will theme in just to get a glimpse of this train-wreck. But unless Seinfeld actually buys NBC (don t laugh he probably has enough cash to do so given the network s current frail state) this show shouldn t make it into another season. Halevei like they say in Yiddish ( if only ).
